Abstract

Digital Governance is a fundamental booster for sustainability, since it promotes transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the administration and management of resources. Among several mechanisms allowing digital governance to contribute to sustainable development, there is its mediating role in environmental policy, as it provides a basis for sustainable management of consumption, subsidy allocation, and protection of natural resources. The focus of this paper is to highlight that environmental monitoring systems supported by digital technology strengthen the fundamental role that digital governance plays in environmental sustainability by leading to more scientific and data-driven decisions.
