Quantum computing and quantum communications have been consolidating as strategic research areas, encompassing topics ranging from algorithms and programming to machine learning, networking, and security. This paper presents recent advances in these areas based on the works discussed at the first edition of the Brazilian Symposium on Quantum Computing and Communications (SBCCQ), held in 2026 as a satellite event of CSBC. The presented works highlight the diversity of research conducted in Brazil, with contributions in quantum software, algorithms, and optimization, Quantum Machine Learning, quantum networks, and post-quantum cryptography. The paper also discusses scientific and technological challenges, as well as the importance of human resource development and community engagement in strengthening the Brazilian quantum technologies ecosystem.
