Abstract

This article analyzes the dual role of digital technologies in the climate crisis — both as potential solutions and as environmental risks. Based on recent global warming data, it highlights how digital tools can support sustainable development when applied responsibly. The text presents key initiatives from the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), which propose strategies such as open science, data governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. It also emphasizes the importance of education, especially in Brazilian graduate programs, as a driver of climate action. Although the recommendations are essential, the article stresses that their effectiveness depends on rapid implementation through concrete policies and practices.
