Special Issue - SEMISH 2026 - Best Papers

Special Issue — SEMISH 2026 Best Papers

Call for Papers

The Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) invites selected authors of the best papers presented at the 53rd Seminar on Integrated Software and Hardware (SEMISH 2026) to submit substantially extended versions of their work for consideration in this Special Issue.

SEMISH is one of the scientific forums of the Brazilian Computer Society Congress (CSBC) and, in 2026, held its 53rd edition. The conference received 328 submissions, with 105 accepted papers, including 72 full papers and 33 short papers.

For this Special Issue, the authors of eight papers selected among the best papers of SEMISH 2026 will be invited to prepare extended journal versions of their work. An invitation to submit does not imply acceptance. All manuscripts will undergo a new and independent peer-review process according to the editorial policies of JBCS.

Submission Requirements

Submissions must constitute substantial and non-trivial extensions of the papers originally published in the SEMISH 2026 proceedings. In particular, manuscripts must:

  • contain at least 30% new material that provides a conceptual or technical extension of the original conference paper;
  • have a different title and abstract from the conference version;
  • be written entirely in English;
  • explicitly cite the original SEMISH 2026 paper;
  • clearly identify and discuss the new contributions introduced in the journal version;
  • not constitute a survey, systematic literature review, literature review, or any other type of review article;
  • retain the nature of an original scientific contribution, including, as appropriate, new methods, systems, models, experimental results, analyses, or case studies; and
  • comply with the current JBCS submission, formatting, and editorial guidelines.

Each manuscript must also be accompanied by a cover letter explaining in detail how the submitted manuscript extends the original SEMISH 2026 paper. The cover letter should identify the main additions and modifications, such as new results, experiments, methodological or conceptual extensions, additional analyses, new case studies, deeper discussions, or substantially rewritten parts of the manuscript. The eight papers considered for invitation were individually examined with respect to the editorial scope of JBCS.

Review Process

All submissions will undergo an initial editorial screening to verify compliance with the requirements of this Special Issue and with the general editorial policies of JBCS.

Eligible manuscripts will then undergo a new peer-review process. Each manuscript will be evaluated by at least two independent reviewers who did not review the corresponding SEMISH 2026 conference paper.

Acceptance will be based exclusively on the quality and relevance of the extended manuscript and on the outcome of the JBCS peer-review process. Selection as a SEMISH 2026 best paper and invitation to this Special Issue do not guarantee publication.
