Special Issue - SIBGRAPI 2026
Proposal for a special issue on Graphics, Patterns and Images in JBCS
Soraia Musse and Silvio Guimarães April 23, 2026
Abstract
We propose a special issue for the Journal of Brazilian Computer Science in connection with the annual international SIBGRAPI conference “Graphics, Patterns and Images”, promoted by the Brazilian society in this field (CEGRAPI).
1 Topic and motivation
The Conference on Graphics, Patterns, and Images (SIBGRAPI) is a leading annual event in Latin America promoted by the Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Image Processing (CE-GRAPI) of the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC). SIBGRAPI started in 1988 and combines con-tributions from computer graphics, computer vision, pattern recognition, and image processing. It comprises the main conference and several co-located workshops and short courses, such as Tutorials, tracks related to Computers Graphics (C&G), Geoscience and Remote Sensing (GRSL), and work-shops for Theses and Dissertations (WTD), Works in Progress (WiP), Undergraduate Works (WUW), and Industry Applications (WIA). With an international program committee, it offers high-quality information at a low cost for students, academics, and industry researchers. The proceedings of the event have been published by IEEE since 1997, and all the editions are available from the IEEE Xplore digital library. Original unpublished papers are invited, and submissions are double blindly reviewed by at least three experts in the topic of the work.
This special issue aims to gather high-quality contributions in the topics related to the SIBGRAPI, more specifically, computer graphics, computer vision, pattern recognition, and image processing.

4 Conference-based issues
The Conference on Graphics, Patterns, and Images (SIBGRAPI) – https://sibgrapi.sbc.org.br/2025/i – is a leading annual event in Latin America promoted by the Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Image Processing (CEGRAPI) of the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC). SIBGRAPI started in 1988 and combines contributions from computer graphics, computer vision, pattern recog-nition, and image processing. It comprises the main conference and several co-located workshops and short courses, such as Tutorials, tracks related to Computers Graphics (C&G), Geoscience and Re-mote Sensing (GRSL), and workshops for Theses and Dissertations (WTD), Works in Progress (WiP), Undergraduate Works (WUW), and Industry Applications (WIA). With an international program committee, it offers high-quality information at a low cost for students, academics, and industry re-searchers. The proceedings of the event have been published by IEEE since 1997, and all the editions are available from the IEEE Xplore digital library. Original unpublished papers are invited, and sub-missions are double blindly reviewed by at least three experts in the topic of the work. Regarding the acceptance rate, it depends on the rate. For instance, the acceptance rate for Main track is about 45%
5 Number of invited articles
The Special Issue for SIBGRAPI is based on invitation, and it is separated by tracks. The proposal is that each track indicates outstanding contributions from its respective sections, as follows:
- Main Track: up to 6 best papers
- WIP Track: up to 3 best papers
- WTD Track: up to 3 best papers
- WDCPath: up to 3 best papers
6 Extension policy
- For the Main Track and WDCPath: include at least 30% of novelty in terms of methodol-ogy/model;
- For the Work in Progress track, the amount of novelty in terms of methodology/model must be higher than 50%;
- For the Workshop of Theses and Dissertations, these submissions must be different from any other publications the author might have related to the thesis or dissertation, i.e., it should not be an extension of a previous work.
7 Timeline
- Submission deadline. July 18th, 2026
- Proposed deadline for reviewing. 3 months after submission
- Author response. 1 month after the reviews are sent to the authors
- Final Notification. December 18th, 2026, so that the issue is completed before the next edition of SIBGRAPI.
