The main aspects of social sustainability refer to access to basic needs, fair income distribution, good work conditions and decent wages, equal rights, access to social and health services and education, and social cohesion and inclusion. The key actor in developing social sustainability is the government, which must create policies and mechanisms for access to information, participation and decision making, as well as establish proactive communication with the population. Digital government works with the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and creates mechanisms for this social sustainability to be established. In this article, we present definitions and concepts of social sustainability, digital government and digital transformation, the actions that have been developed in the Brazilian government scenario, and the various challenges that still exist for the digital transformation of many Brazilian government entities.
