Abstract

This article presents the experience with adopting projects based on the use of open hardware platforms, such as the Arduino kit, in the Introduction to Computer Engineering course. This course has adopted theoretical and practical activities (demonstrations and competitions) along with an extensive discussion about the course's characteristics and professional perspectives. According to feedback obtained through anonymous evaluations from students of this course, it is observed that the methodological and organizational proposal has positively impacted the students' perception of the course and, especially, increased their motivation.
