Editorial Workflow

iSys - Journal of Information Systems operates under a double-anonymous peer review system (except for Extended Version Papers). Authors’ identities are concealed from reviewers, and reviewers’ identities are concealed from authors. This ensures that editorial decisions are based solely on the quality, originality, and contribution of the work.

Peer Review Model

Submissions can be made at any time. Accepted papers are published under a continuous publication model: once accepted and the camera-ready version is approved, the article receives a DOI and is published online. ORCID registration is mandatory for all authors.

The workflow includes:

  1. Pre-analysis (Editors-in-Chief)
    • Submissions are checked for scope, plagiarism, completeness, formatting, and compliance.
    • Out-of-scope or incomplete manuscripts are desk rejected.

  2. Assignment (Responsible Editor)
    • The Responsible Editor (from the Editorial Committee or the own Editors-in-Chief) checks readiness for peer review.
    • Clarifications or adjustments may be requested.
    • Manuscripts not ready may be rejected.

  3. Peer Review
    • Reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.
    • Feedback covers novelty, rigor, relevance for the IS field, transparency, replicability, and reproducibility, and presentation quality.
    • Additional reviewers may be invited if needed.
    • The peer review process can require multiple iterations until acceptance or rejection.

  4. Editorial Decision
    • The Responsible Editor issues a meta-review and decision: Accept, Major Revision, Minor Revision, or Reject.
    • Revisions require a response letter explaining changes.
    • We also strongly recommend sending a version of the paper highlighting all the changes when compared to the previous version.
    • Multiple rounds may occur until a final decision is reached.

  5. Copyediting & Camera-Ready Preparation
    • Accepted papers must use the official iSys template.
    • The Editorial Office highly encourages the authors to verify formatting, references, ORCID, and compliance with all recommendations.

  6. Production & Publication
    • Articles are published online with DOI and supplementary materials.
    • Post-publication changes follow SBC correction/retraction policies.

  7. Indexing & Archiving
    • DOIs are usually deposited within 30 days.
    • This journal uses the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archival system among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent archives of the journal for its preservation and restoration.
    • Indexing occurs progressively as databases include iSys.

Editorial Timelines and Commitment
iSys depends on the voluntary work of its editorial board and reviewers. Timelines may vary, but the journal seeks to achieve:

  • First editorial decision (desk reject or review): ~1-2 weeks
  • Rejection after peer review: ~3 months
  • Acceptance (including revisions): ~6–8 months
  • Publication after acceptance: ~3–4 weeks
  • DOI deposit: within 30 days of publication

The acceptance rate of regular submissions is expected to be 30%, in line with similar SBC journals. Timeliness is important, but the priority is a rigorous, ethical, and transparent process.
