Abstract

The condition of isolation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has profoundly changed contemporary human relations and the routine of carrying out daily activities. In the context of education, the use of information and communication technologies has supported distance learning and remote activities. However, the experience of using this type of software has not been much explored in the conduct of academic and scientific events. This type of events, which usually took place in the face-to-face format, has a high impact on the training and updating of professionals in several areas, in addition to allowing to discuss trends in the labor market and technological innovation. It is necessary that the difficulties of carrying out these events in the virtual format are discussed, in addition to the positive and negative aspects of the use of ICTs during their planning, execution and evaluation. In this context, this paper presents the results of adapting the Maranhão Informatics Event held every two years to the virtual format. The event was organized in the space of a month and a half and ran over three weeks, with activities such as: presentation of works, programming marathon, competition of educational objects, online discussions, webinars and tutorials on current topics, and electronic sports championship. At all, 174 subscribers participated in the activities carried out watching the activities and interacting on the platforms of the event. To assess the impact of activities in the online format, a questionnaire was applied at the end of the event, which quoted with the response of 45 of the participants. The results indicated the positive evaluation of the event for all academic activities carried out, the advantages of having held the event in a virtual and free way; and making the content available for future reference. In addition, opportunities for improvement such as the use of resources to provide additional information live, improved disclosure and provide greater interaction between participants.
