Developing Confidence and Perseverance in Educational Robotics through Project-Based Learning

Abstract

This paper presents the results of an educational robotics program designed for public elementary school students, implemented through Project-Based Learning (PBL) methodology. The workshops aimed to foster the development of skills in programming, electronics, and robot construction, as well as to investigate the effects on students’ confidence and perseverance. The study employed a mixed-methods approach (qualitative and quantitative), using questionnaires administered throughout the activities. The results indicated an increase in students’ self-efficacy in electronics and programming, and stability in constructing physical and mechanical structures. The use of tools such as protocols, rubrics, mini-lessons, and webquests contributed to student engagement and learning consolidation. The program demonstrated potential to bring technological education closer to the school community and to encourage students’ interest in pursuing further studies in technical education programs.
